Ukrainian Drone Manufacturer Invests in East Anglia

Ukrainian drone company, Ukrspecsystems, has announced plans to invest £200 million in East Anglia, UK, through the construction of a new production facility and testing site in Suffolk. This development is projected to generate hundreds of high-skill job opportunities.

    Regional Economic Impact

The news brings positive prospects for the region following Lotus’s recent decision to lay off 550 employees in neighboring Norfolk, with the potential for skill transferability between industries.

    Facility and Operations

    • The investment involves setting up an 11,000m2 manufacturing plant at Mildenhall and a new testing site at Elmsett, both of which are located in Suffolk.
    • Drone production is expected to commence in 2026, with recruitment starting later this year.

Ukrspecsystems also aims to expand to additional sites within the region and plans to offer apprenticeships to nurture a new generation of skilled workers.

    Statements from Industry Leaders

Rory Chamberlain, Managing Director UK of Ukrspecsystems, expressed the company’s commitment to investing in UK infrastructure, jobs, and skills. He highlighted the potential for Ukrspecsystems to become a global leader in uncrewed systems across both civil and military sectors, leveraging UK expertise in aviation and industry.

Rt Hon Maria Eagle MP, Minister for Defense Procurement and Industry, acknowledged the collaborative benefits, citing access to innovative designs and technologies that will bolster the UK’s Armed Forces and its partners. She highlighted the potential for job creation and economic growth.

    Future Prospects and Events

Ukrspecsystems is set to participate in the DSEI UK event, the leading defense and security industry event in Europe, held from September 9th to 12th at Excel London. The company is expected to announce further investments in the UK during the event.
