TACV Cabo Verde Airlines Expands with First ATR72-600 Acquisition
TACV Cabo Verde Airlines has integrated two ATR72-600 turboprop aircraft into its fleet through a long-term leasing agreement with TrueNoord. This marks the first introduction of this aircraft type for the airline. The aircraft, based at Praia International Airport on Santiago Island, began arriving in September 2025—with MSN 1512 appearing earlier in the month and MSN 1514 following later.
Fleet Enhancement for Better Connectivity
With these additions, TACV aims to improve intra-island connectivity, which plays a crucial role in the Cape Verdean economy. According to Maarten Grift, TrueNoord’s Sales Director, these aircraft will significantly bolster connectivity, which is “a geographic necessity and vital for the economy of the country.” Enhanced air services are expected to boost tourism, international trade, and diaspora reconnections.
Strategic Importance and Future Outlook
Pedro Barros, TACV’s Chairman and CEO, highlighted the partnership with TrueNoord as a pivotal step forward. He explained that this move is part of the airline’s broader strategy to enhance connectivity within the archipelago. Grift also remarked that there is a growing demand across Africa for regional aircraft, with turboprops like the ATR72-600 being particularly well-suited for the diverse operating conditions of the continent.
Further Developments and Industry Trends
In line with regional aviation trends, more African carriers are expected to opt for this type of aircraft. This development in TACV’s fleet is in line with the broader demand for efficient and versatile regional aircraft capable of operating in varied environments.
