New Delhi Airport’s Terminal 2 Reopening: What to Expect in 2025

Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) in New Delhi is preparing to inaugurate its newly updated Terminal 2 on October 26, 2025. According to Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), this facility will soon begin handling domestic flights, marking a move to streamline operations and alleviate congestion at other terminals.

    Overview of Delhi Airport’s Expansion

As the busiest airport in India and among the busiest in South Asia, Delhi Airport’s operational upgrades are essential for managing its growing passenger numbers. Beginning October 26, 2025, select domestic flights by IndiGo and Go First will operate from the renewed Terminal 2. This strategic move aims to redistribute the passenger load more evenly across the airport, easing pressure on Terminals 1 and 3.

    Enhancements at Terminal 2

    • Upgraded check-in counters
    • Additional security lanes
    • Improved baggage handling systems

The passenger waiting areas at Terminal 2 have also seen significant improvements, featuring better seating arrangements, upgraded lighting, and enhanced food and beverage options. These updates are designed to provide a more efficient and pleasant travel experience for domestic passengers.

    Handling Passenger and Traffic Flow

Indira Gandhi International Airport manages over 70 million passengers a year, making efficient traffic management crucial. Transitioning flights to Terminal 2 will help optimize aircraft movements and decrease wait times at security checkpoints and boarding gates. DIAL notes that this is a phased initiative aimed at supporting future growth in passenger numbers.

Passengers are encouraged to verify their flight information meticulously before arriving at the airport due to the changes in terminal allocations. Adequate time for these adjustments is advised.

    Long-Term Modernization Plans

The reopening of Terminal 2 is an integral component of Delhi Airport’s broader modernization agenda. Plans for expansion at Terminals 1 and 3 are also underway, aiming to further boost handling capacity. These efforts are aligned with the government’s aviation infrastructure goals to meet India’s increasing air travel demands.

To assist passengers, signage and staff support will be available throughout the airport, ensuring travelers find the correct terminal and boarding gates.
