Malaysia Airlines Expands Adelaide Route to Daily Service

Adelaide Airport (ADL) in South Australia has announced that Malaysia Airlines will increase its flight frequency from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL). This change will see the flights transition to a daily schedule, primarily using the Airbus A330neo, significantly increasing seat availability on the route.

    Daily Flights from February 2026

Presently, Malaysia Airlines operates five weekly flights between Kuala Lumpur and Adelaide utilizing the Airbus A330-300. Starting in November 2025, this frequency will rise to six flights weekly, aligning with the Southern Hemisphere’s peak summer season. By February 2026, the route will become a daily service. Malaysia Airlines will introduce the Airbus A330-900 from the A330neo series for enhanced comfort and efficiency.

“Malaysia Airlines has been a significant supporter of Adelaide’s international market over many years. Today’s announcement reinforces that commitment. It’s a wonderful outcome for South Australians traveling to Malaysia and beyond, and to the overseas visitors traveling to Adelaide using the airline’s extensive route network.” – Brenton Cox, MD, Adelaide Airport

    Airbus Twinjets Preferred for Route

Currently, Malaysia Airlines uses the Airbus A330-300 for its Kuala Lumpur to Adelaide route five times a week. Data from Cirium indicates four additional flights utilizing the modern Airbus A350-900, noted for its slightly reduced capacity of 286 seats compared to the A330-300’s 290. However, the A350-900 offers a first class cabin, a feature unique among Malaysia Airlines’ widebody twinjets.

The Airbus A350-900 configuration includes a single row of four ‘Business Suites’ in a 1-2-1 setup, 35 business class seats, and 247 economy seats. In contrast, the A330-300 offers 27 business class seats and 263 economy seats.

    Features of the Airbus A330-900

Malaysia Airlines will start operating the Airbus A330-900 for the route on January 29. This aircraft offers reduced emissions, quieter engines, and improved passenger comfort. With 297 seats configured in a consistent 1-2-1 layout for 28 business class flatbeds and 269 economy seats in an 8-abreast 2-4-2 format (including 24 extra legroom seats), the airline will provide over 60,000 additional seats annually.

This service not only benefits business and leisure travelers, but is also popular among international students traveling between Malaysia and other regions.
