Polish and Romanian Air Forces are maintaining a heightened state of alert following drone strikes targeting nearby Ukrainian regions.
Poland’s Military Response
On the evening of September 13, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces announced an increase in military aviation readiness. This action was in direct response to the perceived threat of drone strikes in Ukrainian regions close to Poland’s border. Polish and allied aircraft have been deployed within Polish airspace, with ground-based air defense and radar systems reaching maximum readiness.
- Objective: Ensure airspace security
- Aim: Protect citizens in border areas
The command emphasized the precautionary nature of these operations, monitoring developments closely to ensure a swift response if necessary.
Impact on Civil Aviation
The Polish Air Transport Agency has announced the suspension of operations at Lublin Airport due to nearby military activities. All air operations in the controlled area surrounding the airport have ceased temporarily.
“Due to military operations, Lublin Airport and its surrounding controlled area are closed. Updates will be provided as the situation progresses,” the agency reported.
Public Safety Alerts
The Center for Governmental Security has issued alerts to residents in multiple districts within Lublin Voivodeship, including Chełm, Krasnystaw, Łęczna, Świdnica, and Włodawa, cautioning about the potential threat of an air attack. Residents are advised to adhere to official instructions and await further information.
