Overview of Emirates’ New Business Class Layout

Emirates Airline has responded to criticisms regarding its Boeing 777-300ER Business Class by introducing a new seating configuration. The airline is transitioning from the outdated 2-3-2 layout to a modern 1-2-1 configuration, ensuring direct aisle access for each passenger. Implemented in late 2024, this upgrade has been completed on 25 out of 120 aircraft, aligning Emirates more closely with competitors like Qatar Airways and Finnair.

    Updated Seating Configuration

The previous 2-3-2 arrangement had been a disadvantage for Emirates’ Business Class when compared to rivals offering more privacy and comfort. The new 1-2-1 layout offers:

    • Direct aisle access from every seat
    • 78-inch lie-flat beds
    • Redesigned finishes with cream leather
    • Darker wood accents and 23-inch HD entertainment screens

This update mainly addresses passenger concerns relating to personal space, comfort, and movement ease according to a review by MainlyMiles.

    Seating Types and Details

A recent flight on the newly configured Boeing 777-300ER, operating as EK65 from Dubai to London Stansted, illustrated the changes. The Business Class cabin now includes 40 seats in two sections:

    • True window seats (A/K) for maximum privacy
    • Aisle-aligned window seats (B/J) for easier access
    • Middle pairs (E/F) ideal for companion travelers
    • Separated middle seats (D/G) for solo travelers

Seat 10A, a true window seat, was selected for optimal privacy.

    Cabin Features and Amenities

The Business Class cabin enhancements include:

    • Lie-flat beds with plush leather upholstery
    • Preset adjustable seat controls
    • Large tray tables with overhead bin storage reliance
    • A novelty personal minibar
    • Power outlets, including USB-C and USB-A ports, and a universal AC socket

Amenities vary based on flight duration, with BVLGARI kits available on longer routes. Complimentary Wi-Fi is provided for Skywards members, with speeds capable of reaching 24 Mbps.

    Food, Beverages, and Entertainment

In-flight meals for EK65 included breakfast and lunch, complemented by a selection of wines and champagnes. The ICE entertainment system is a notable feature with over 4,000 hours of content available, supporting Bluetooth headphone pairing.

    Availability and Future Plans

As of August 2025, 25 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft feature the new layout, with ongoing retrofitting expected at a pace of one aircraft every two weeks. Emirates plans to retrofit 81 aircraft, with the remainder to be replaced by Boeing 777-9 and 777-8 models from 2026.

Current destinations featuring the new cabin include:

    • London Stansted (STN)
    • Boston (BOS)
    • Johannesburg (JNB)
    • Hong Kong (HKG)
    • Seattle (SEA)
    • Upcoming routes include Kuala Lumpur and Phuket.

    Conclusion

With this retrofit, Emirates has elevated its Business Class offering by removing the outdated 2-3-2 layout. While not revolutionary, the new design provides significant improvements in comfort, aisle access, and entertainment, making it a competitive choice for travelers in 2025.
