British Airways Flight BA277 Returns to London Heathrow Due to Technical Issue
British Airways flight BA277, bound for Hyderabad, was forced to return to London Heathrow Airport because of a technical issue with the Boeing 777-200ER aircraft. Registered as G-YMME, the plane departed from runway 27R at Heathrow at 15:32 BST for its scheduled nine-hour flight to Hyderabad, India.
Initially, the aircraft climbed to an altitude of 32,000 feet but then turned back over Belgium due to the technical problem affecting the 25-year-old plane. The pilots maintained a holding pattern at flight level 290 (FL290) for 30 minutes to reduce the aircraft’s weight before it could safely make an approach back to London.
The flight landed at Heathrow 1 hour and 27 minutes after takeoff, touching down on runway 27L before taxiing to a remote stand at Terminal 5. British Airways confirmed that the return was due to a technical issue, resulting in the cancellation of the flight.
