The incident involved a Cirrus SR22T aircraft which crashed into a field in Franklin, North Carolina, at around 3 p.m. local time on Thursday, September 18. The plane, which James owned, had departed from John C. Tune Airport in Nashville at 12:41 p.m. CST. Tragically, all three individuals on board did not survive. The crash occurred in proximity to an elementary school and near the Macon County Airport, casting a somber shadow over the music industry.
