Air Austral Boeing 787 Makes Emergency Landing in Saudi Arabia

An Air Austral Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, en route from Mayotte to Paris, made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, September 13, 2025. The incident occurred following a technical problem that arose during the flight.

    Flight Details

    • Route: Mayotte to Paris
    • Aircraft: Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner
    • Registration: F-OLRB
    • Stopover: Nairobi

    Technical Issue and Diversion

While proceeding with the second leg of the journey from Nairobi towards Paris, the flight crew detected a drop in oil pressure. This prompted them to declare an emergency and initiate a diversion, prioritizing a safe landing at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Saudi Arabia.

    Maintenance Background

The aircraft had recently been returned to service after undergoing extensive maintenance and grounding in Teruel, Spain. The technical issue arose soon after this maintenance work was completed.

    Passenger Repatriation

To accommodate stranded passengers, Air Austral arranged for a Boeing 777-300ER to be dispatched from Paris. This aircraft will operate a special flight, UU9973, departing from Jeddah at 5:45 p.m. and arriving at Paris-CDG at 10:00 p.m. local time.

    Summary

The prompt diversion to Jeddah was a safety measure after a significant technical problem was discovered. The airline’s quick response ensured passenger safety and their eventual return to Paris.
