    Qatar Airways Expands A380 Services

Qatar Airways remains one of ten airlines still operating the Airbus A380. As per ch-aviation data, the Gulf airline has a fleet of ten A380s, eight of which are currently serving routes. Each aircraft offers 517 seats in a consistent three-class configuration. Analyzing September to December flights reveals Qatar Airways as the fourth-largest user of the double-decker globally, following Emirates, British Airways, and Singapore Airlines. The airline now averages six daily A380 departures from its Doha hub, an increase from four daily the previous year due to more aircraft coming online, reduced A380 services to Australia, and a 19% decrease in the average stage length.

A380 Flights to Bangkok to Reach Four Daily

The northern hemisphere airline schedule switches to winter mode on October 26, according to IATA slot seasons. On this date, Qatar Airways will elevate its A380 service from Doha to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi to a new high of 25 weekly flights, translating to three to four daily services. This will be the first time four daily A380 departures will be possible; three were regularly scheduled in 2016. Last winter, only a single daily A380 service operated to Bangkok. This increase was facilitated by a reduction in London Heathrow A380 flights, notwithstanding an increase in total Heathrow flights to 10 daily. With London Gatwick included, the airline will also operate up to five London-bound services within 35 minutes.

    Overall Service to Bangkok Enhanced

In addition to the A380, other aircraft will continue service to Bangkok. Qatar Airways’ full winter schedule will max out at 45 weekly flights, equating to six to seven daily services along the 2,855 nm route. The A380 will comprise 57% of these departures, with complementing services by the Boeing 787-8, 787-9, 777-300ER, 777-200LR, and A350-1000 on select dates.

Qatar Airways estimated over 930,000 round-trip passengers to Bangkok between July 2024 and June 2025. Doha served as a connecting hub for most, with 87% continuing to other destinations. Popular connecting airports included London Heathrow, Paris CDG, Frankfurt, and others across Europe and the Middle East. The timing of A380 flights aligns with peak arrival waves in Doha, thereby optimizing capacity utilization.
