NATO Tiger Meet 2025 commenced on September 23 at Air Base No. 11 in Beja, Portugal, marking the start of Europe’s largest multinational air exercise. With over 80 aircraft movements on its opening day, the event has drawn significant attention, culminating in a special Spottersday for aviation enthusiasts.
NATO Tiger Meet 2025 Overview
This year’s exercise saw participation from various NATO countries, including Italy, Greece, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Switzerland, Spain, the Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, France, and Austria. A diverse fleet of aircraft, including fighter jets, helicopters, transport aircraft, and surveillance platforms, took flight as part of the two-week training aimed at enhancing interoperability in international operations.
Spottersday Experience
Spottersday provided approximately 150 aviation photographers and fans with an opportunity to observe aircraft maneuvers up close. The elevated ground on both sides of the runway offered excellent observation points for arrivals and departures. Although the food arrangements received mixed reviews, the presence of squadron merchandise stands and networking opportunities contributed to a lively atmosphere.
“Exercises like NATO Tiger Meet are crucial for operational readiness and demonstrate the power of international collaboration,” stated a NATO spokesperson. “Spottersday allows us to extend this spirit of cooperation to the public.”
Highlights for Aviation Enthusiasts
The NATO Tiger Meet is celebrated for blending high-level military training with cultural exchanges among participating squadrons, encapsulated by the “tiger spirit.” For aviation buffs, witnessing aircraft such as Eurofighters, F-16 Fighting Falcons, Tornados, Gripens, and E-3A Sentries together is a rare spectacle in Europe.
As the 2025 exercise progresses, both military personnel and civilian attendees benefit.
