Delta Air Lines to Cease Geneva Flights by 2026

Delta Air Lines will end its service to Geneva in 2026, with all flights removed from schedules. This decision was first noticed by Ishrion Aviation and is confirmed on the airline’s website as well as other booking platforms. The last scheduled departure from New York JFK to Geneva is set for October 20, 2025.

    Delta’s Recent European Route Changes

Geneva joins the list of European destinations Delta is removing from its network, following the termination of service to London Gatwick, which saw its final flight on September 7, 2025. Additionally, the SkyTeam member will conclude its JFK to Brussels operations on January 5, 2026. Despite these closures, Brussels will remain accessible from Atlanta. As airlines finalize their summer schedules, more alterations are anticipated. The available aircraft may lead to new transatlantic routes next summer, potentially including destinations like Malta and Olbia.

    Resumption and Cancellation Timeline

Delta restarted its JFK-Geneva service on April 10, 2023, after a 30-year hiatus. This date also marked the launch of JFK-Gatwick flights, which have since ended. Geneva has proven to be both a significant and lucrative market.

    • From August 2024 to July 2025, carriers transported 168,000 passengers round-trip between the two cities.
    • The average one-way fare, including a fuel surcharge, stood at $1,365, surpassing the fares for other major routes such as JFK-Zurich and JFK-London Heathrow.

    Route Performance and Adjustments

    Frequency and Aircraft Adjustments

The route, covering 3,357 nautical miles, was initially seasonal. From April to June 2025, Delta operated the 216-seat Boeing 767-300ER on this route. This seasonal trend aligns with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) data, which shows underwhelming load factors during these months. For instance, the load was only 63% in May 2025.

Peak summer months appeared more successful, prompting a switch to the larger 238-seat 767-400ER. However, frequency reductions from daily to five times weekly were evident from September 2025 onwards as Delta sought better performance from the route.

    Passenger Numbers and Load Factors

Data from the U.S. DOT indicates that between June 2024 and May 2025, Delta transported 67,600 passengers round-trip on this seasonal route, down from 71,800 the previous year. Contributing factors include the deployment of lower-capacity aircraft and a declining load factor from 82% to 77%. SWISS, offering a year-round service, carried 118,000 passengers during the same period despite an underwhelming 67% load factor. United, servicing Geneva daily from Newark, carried 93,000 passengers with a 78% seat occupancy rate. Both airlines experienced lower loads compared to their broader U.S.-European operations.
