Uzbekistan Airways Orders Record Number of Boeing 787 Dreamliners
Uzbekistan Airways has placed an order for up to 22 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, marking its largest aircraft purchase to date. The national carrier will acquire 14 Boeing 787-9 aircraft, with options for eight additional planes, significantly enhancing its long-haul capabilities. This substantial deal is aligned with efforts to support nearly 35,000 U.S. jobs.
The signing took place during the United Nations General Assembly, witnessed by Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev alongside high-ranking officials from Boeing and Uzbekistan Airways. Additionally, a Memorandum of Cooperation between Boeing and Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport aims to further develop the country’s aviation ecosystem.
Expanding Long-Haul Connectivity
As the first Central Asian airline to operate the 787, Uzbekistan Airways already connects key destinations in Europe, Asia, and the United States, including direct services to New York. The addition of the new 787-9 model, known for its increased passenger capacity and extended range, will enable the airline to introduce new routes to further U.S. cities and expand its reach to other long-haul destinations.
An Uzbekistan Airways representative commented, “The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has revolutionized our operations. This order will allow us to match the growing international demand while continuing fleet modernization efforts.”
Strategic Global Expansion
Experts note that this acquisition positions Uzbekistan Airways as a formidable global competitor and underscores the nation’s aspirations to become a pivotal aviation hub in Central Asia. The agreement with Boeing is expected to foster deeper cooperation in aviation infrastructure, training, and services.
With this commitment, Uzbekistan Airways strengthens its focus on renewing its fleet and expanding its long-haul reach. The introduction of the 787-9 aircraft is likely to enhance operational efficiency, improve passenger comfort, and bolster global connectivity, thereby affirming the airline’s significant role in connecting Central Asia to the international community.
