Air Canada Expands US Connections with Three New Routes in 2026
Air Canada (AC) will introduce three new U.S. routes in May 2026, enhancing connectivity from Toronto (YYZ) and Montreal (YUL). These new services will link to San Antonio (SAT), Cleveland (CLE), and Columbus (CMH), boosting the airline’s North American network. The airline plans to operate these routes with Airbus A220 and Embraer E175 aircraft, thereby increasing both frequency and network depth across the continent, according to Ishrion Aviation.
Details of New Routes
- Toronto (YYZ) – San Antonio (SAT): Three weekly flights using Airbus A220 aircraft.
- Montreal (YUL) – Cleveland (CLE): Daily flights operated by Embraer E175 aircraft.
- Montreal (YUL) – Columbus (CMH): Daily flights also operated by Embraer E175 aircraft.
The Toronto–San Antonio route represents a new venture for Air Canada, enabling travelers direct access between Ontario’s largest hub and Texas. Meanwhile, the additions from Montreal to Cleveland and Columbus expand access to pivotal Midwest business and leisure destinations.
Enhancing Business and Leisure Travel
These initiatives address an increasing demand for more direct travel options between Canada and mid-sized American cities. San Antonio offers a combination of business, tourism, and cultural attractions, while Cleveland and Columbus serve as gateways to Ohio’s commercial and educational regions. By targeting these markets, Air Canada supports both business travel and growing tourism flows between Quebec and the U.S. Midwest.
Strategic Aircraft Deployment
The Airbus A220, utilized for the Toronto–San Antonio route, offers passengers a contemporary and fuel-efficient narrow-body aircraft designed for medium-haul journeys. Simultaneously, the Embraer E175 suits the Montreal–Cleveland and Montreal–Columbus markets, balancing capacity and frequency. This combination allows Air Canada to tailor services to specific market sizes while supporting comfort and efficiency. The daily frequencies to Ohio emphasize convenience for business travelers, while San Antonio’s three-weekly service introduces a new leisure and commerce option from Toronto.
Advancing North American Reach
Air Canada’s expansion highlights its committed investment in U.S. connectivity, a crucial market for its global growth strategy. The U.S. remains the largest foreign market for the airline, with over 50 destinations served. By including San Antonio, Cleveland, and Columbus, Air Canada strengthens its competitive stance against both U.S. and Canadian carriers. For travelers, the benefits are clearer: increased non-stop options reduce travel time and improve access to secondary cities without needing larger U.S. hubs.
