Emirates Increases Training Capacity with New Pilot Training Center

Emirates Airlines has inaugurated a new £100 million pilot training center in Dubai, enhancing its annual training capacity by over 50% as it readies for the addition of Airbus A350 and Boeing 777X aircraft.

    Facility and Capacity Expansion

The newly opened facility, situated near the airline’s existing training centers, introduces an additional 45,000 training hours per year, increasing Emirates’ total training capacity to 130,000 hours when fully operational.

    Simulator and Technology Overview

    • The center includes six full-flight simulator bays.
    • Currently, two Airbus A350 simulators are in use, with four more simulators for the A350 and Boeing 777X models planned for installation over the next two years.
    • Once completed, Emirates will manage a total of 17 simulators, supporting its A380, Boeing 777, A350, and 777X fleets.

Up to 7,500 training hours per simulator each year
    Supporting approximately 1,000 pilots annually

    Strategic Investment

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates, regards this project as a strategic investment, marking a notable achievement in aviation training and being a significant milestone in the industry.

    Innovative Training Technologies

The center features an in-house Pilot Support Station, allowing pilots to configure flight decks, craft flight plans, and analyze training sessions using performance recordings. This innovation facilitates enhanced learning and efficient preparation.

Additionally, a 3D printing unit is employed to produce intricate components required for training tools. This advancement is expected to yield annual savings of up to AED 1 million (£200,000), enhancing cost efficiency and operational flexibility.

    Certification and Recognition

Emirates’ first A350 simulator has received Level D certification, the premium qualification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). It is the first worldwide at Airbus A350 Standard 1.3 to attain this certification without any discrepancies, reinforcing Emirates’ leadership in aviation training standards.

The center includes four classrooms that support recurrent training, conversion courses, and command upgrade programs, supplementing Emirates’ extensive aviation education network, which comprises the Flight Training Academy, Aviation University, Cabin Crew Training Center, and Aviation College in Dubai.

Support for Fleet and Workforce Expansion

This new facility launch coincides with Emirates’ intensified efforts to recruit pilots. The airline is actively seeking candidates for its Direct Entry Captain, Accelerated Command, and First Officer programs in anticipation of new aircraft arrivals.

Through this investment, Emirates bolsters its status as a leader in integrated training infrastructure, enhancing operational readiness and global expansion ambitions.
