Delta’s Expansion at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport
Delta Air Lines is reinforcing its presence in Austin by introducing a new daily nonstop flight to Miami starting November 22, 2025. This move challenges American Airlines at its Miami hub. The expansion is part of Delta’s strategy to make Austin a focus city, with plans to service 30 destinations.
New Flight Services from Austin
- Delta’s planned services include 150 daily flights, utilization of 20–30 gates, and operation of two lounges.
- Expected staff increase to 2,700–2,800 by 2031.
- The Austin-Miami route to be serviced by a Boeing 737-800, part of Delta’s joint venture with LATAM.
- This daily route will compete directly with American Airlines’ existing three times daily, as well as Southwest Airlines’ five weekly services, and Frontier Airlines’ three weekly services.
Infrastructure and Staffing Investments
- A new 30,000 sq ft Delta Sky Club is planned to open, with an upgrade to a Delta One lounge by 2031.
- Delta will establish a new flight attendant base in October 2025, contributing to a significant increase in staffing levels.
- The airline has secured a 10-year lease, solidifying its status as a central player at Austin-Bergstrom.
Market Performance
In 2025, Delta transported over 1 million passengers at Austin-Bergstrom, marking a growth of 12% from 2024. Delta holds 22% of the flights and 19% of seating capacity. Meanwhile, Southwest Airlines dominates with 39% of flights and 41% of seats. American Airlines experienced a passenger drop of 16% from January to July 2025.
Strategic Partnerships
Delta’s new Austin-Miami route enhances its 2019 partnership with LATAM, aimed at improving Latin American connectivity. Additionally, Delta’s community initiatives, such as its sponsorship of Austin FC and volunteering with local organizations, further integrate the airline within the local community, bolstering its quest to increase market share.
