Etihad Airways Achieves New Passenger Milestone in August 2025
Etihad Airways, the flag carrier of the United Arab Emirates, reported a significant achievement by transporting over two million passengers in a single month for the first time in its history in August 2025. This represented a substantial year-on-year growth in passenger traffic, complemented by an increase in the airline’s load factor.
Significant Year-on-Year Growth
Compared to August 2024, when Etihad Airways carried 1.7 million passengers, the August 2025 figures showcase a 22% increase. The airline’s load factor also improved from 89% to 91%, indicating more efficient capacity utilization.
Network and Fleet Expansion
During this period, Etihad expanded its network by adding five new destinations, raising its total from 76 to 81 passenger destinations. The fleet similarly grew by 16.7%, from 96 to 112 aircraft, due in part to the introduction of the Airbus A321LR. CEO Antonoaldo Neves remarked on this growth, highlighting the innovative introduction of First Class suites and lie-flat Business seats on medium-haul routes in the region.
Impressive Year-To-Date Performance
For the first eight months of 2025, Etihad Airways carried 14.2 million passengers, marking an 18.3% increase over the same period in 2024. The average load factor during this time was recorded at 88%, up from 86% the previous year. This growth reflects strong demand and efficient operations, as noted by the airline.
| Flights | Seats | Available Seat Miles |
|---|---|---|
| 8,842 | 2,208,635 | 6,194,001,111 |
In August 2025, Etihad scheduled over 8,800 flights, providing over 2.2 million seats and nearly 6.2 billion available seat miles. Its top destinations from Abu Dhabi International Airport included Delhi, Jeddah, Kuwait, London Heathrow, Mumbai, and Riyadh, with each seeing four daily round trips.
Strong Mid-Year Results
This milestone follows Etihad’s already strong performance in the first half of the year. In H1 2025, the airline carried 10.2 million passengers, a 17% increase compared to the first half of 2024. Additionally, Etihad’s post-tax net profits increased by 32%.
Ongoing Fleet and Personnel Growth
To support this growth, Etihad has been actively recruiting, adding 125 new pilots and 1,100 flight attendants in the first half of the year. This expansion is part of Etihad’s strategy to maintain its growth trajectory and achieve strong full-year results.
